On Saturday, July 22nd, join Signdance Collective for a two-hour compositional workshop, featuring their signature hybrid form of theatre incorporating dance, text, and languages both spoken and signed.
Designed for disabled, deaf, and non-disabled performers, the Signdance workshop explores rhythm and improvisation in combination with international sign language and movement work. During the workshop, participants develop their own compositions in signdance theatre. At the participant’s discretion, these compositions may be shared internationally on the “Letters From Afar” digital platform associated with Signdance’s current touring production of Caridad Svich’s Carthage/Cartegena.
Now celebrating their 30th year, Signdance Collective creates new and original performance pieces built on inclusivity, with a focus on disability- and deaf-led work. Their unique fusion of sign theatre, dance, and original live music has been seen around the globe, as they tour the UK and internationally. Their work has been hailed as “innovative and creatively brilliant” (Diversity Awards, BBC) and “unusual and poetic; it break rules, transforming physical disability into artistic wonder” (Tamilla Woodard).
