Ish Klein and Jamara Wakefield, finalists for the 2016-17 Leslie Scalapino Award for Innovative Women Performance Writers, will present staged readings of their scripts, featuring full casts, at Theaterlab on April 9th, 2017.

Klein’s play, The Orchids, will be directed by Dawn Saito. Wakefield’s play, Rosie, will be directed by Imani JL Douglas. 

Ish Klein is the author of Union! (2009), Moving Day (2011), and Consolation and Mirth (2015), all published by Canarium Books. In 2011, Poor Claudia released a collection of her short films, Success Window. Her poems have also appeared in numerous magazines and her films have played at festivals around the world. She lives in Western Massachusetts.

Jamara Wakefield is an American spoken word poet, community organizer and writer, previously known by her stage name London Bridgez. She has released two EPs, Love Words Soft Spoken and SHE. In 2014, she released her third studio album, Children of the Night.
